Soho / nolita

Cliqk Studios is located at the intersection of Soho and Nolita.

Soho is the city’s most fashionable neighborhood has no shortage of trendy spots for shopping and dining, but careful explorers will find Soho’s true charm in the cobblestone streets, cast-iron architecture, and sweeping lofts and galleries.

Nolita, which stands for ‘North of Little Italy’, sits at the nexus of a number of popular downtown neighborhoods: Soho, Noho, the Lower East Side, and Little Italy. Originally filled with Italian butcher shops, bakeries, and churches, Nolita received its old-world character from first-time residents in the 1770s. Today it is home to some of the best boutiques and restaurants in the city.

Historic police building

Directly across from Cliqk Studios you can take in breathtaking views of the historic NYC Police Building, a spectacular Baroque-revival-style palace. It was designed by Hoppin & Koen in 1909, when architects and planners were still under the influence of the image of the "White City," the Beaux Arts inspired notion of a beautiful city. In 1973, the city opened a new headquarters for the Police Department, a huge modernistic, red brick box to the east of the Municipal Building, and this building fell into limbo after many years of neglect. The success of SoHo and NoHo revived interest in the property and in 1988 it was converted into luxury cooperative apartments.

Secret society records / Chung King Studios

The loft floor of Cliqk Studios was once the original location of record label Secret Society Records in the early 80s. Considered the ‘Abbey Road’ of hip hop and rap, Rick Rubin named this location Chung King's House of Metal, a nod to the old Chinese restaurant that stood below Secret Society Records headquarters. When Secret Society Records eventually morphed into Chung King Studios, artists like the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and Run DMC as well as Sugar Hill Gang's Rappers Delight was recorded here. John King was the founder of Chung King Studios.
